Deaflympics - Day Three

The Monday blues have not reached Taiwan yet or perhaps have bypassed us here! With the sun shining with no rain cloud in sight, athletes here and there competing for the Gold, and the fans standing around in anticipation of excitement and awe, its already day 2 of Deaflympics and 72 medals won by 27 countries in many sports. 17 gold medals. Smiling and happy faces everywhere, it is truly contagious that one cannot help but smile. With 17 Sports with 20 Discliplines and 177 events altogether requires tremendous planning and orchestration to ensure everything goes smoothly according to schedule, the Taiwanese Deaflympics committee are commended for their striving commitment to make this an unforgettable Deaflympics for everyone involved.

Deaflympics - Day Two

The Day After.


Since the games were declared to have begun, the hustle of activity can be spotted everywhere, the volunteers in their bright yellow and orange trendy t-shirts and big smiles on their faces, ready for the officials, athletes and fans. The weather was scorching hot at 33C with the humidex at 42C with rare gentle breezes visiting, lending temporary relief from the heat. People from all over the world were still a-buzz with inspiration from the Opening Ceremonies on September 5, 2009 at the Taipei Arena, motivated to keep the Olympic spirit, greeting old friends and making new friends among the crowds.



The first gold medal won at the 21st Deaflympics went directly to Paul Wood from Unites States team in cycling 1000m sprint race. . Four gold medals were awarded on September 6 in cycling, shooting, and two in Taekwondo.
